In Loving Memory of Jack Jack was the kind of dog you never forget—the perfect balance of gentle soul and loyal protector. Known as the friendliest face on the farm, he greeted everyone with a wagging tail, bright eyes, and a heart wide open. Yet beneath that sweet nature was a watchful, protective spirit—always keeping a quiet eye on the people and place he loved most. He lived for the outdoors. Whether he was exploring the woods with curious determination, soaking up the sun, or rolling happily in the grass, Jack found pure joy in the simple, beautiful moments of farm life. There was nowhere he’d rather be than outside, surrounded by the sights, smells, and freedom he loved. Jack adored attention—every scratch behind the ears, every belly rub, every moment spent close to his people. He gave love freely and endlessly, and in return, he made everyone feel special just by being near. More than anything, Jack was the bestest boy—a loyal companion, a protector, and a constant source of happiness. His paw prints are forever etched into the land he roamed and the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

The wind blows south and north, twisting here, and there, getting nowhere. The river flows into the sea, but the sea is never full, and the water returns to the river to flow again to the sea. So that I saw there is nothing better for Man then that he should be happy in his work for that is what he is here for and no one can bring him back to enjoy what is in the future so let him enjoy it now. "Mary Jane Marcellus, the daughter of Jesse and Dorothy (Sauter) Marcellus, was born at Barnes Corners, New York, on November 2, 1902. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Humboldt and attended country schools in Humboldt County. She married Edward Fox at Humboldt and they made their home here for 18 years. After the marriage was dissolved, she moved to Montana, where she was united in marriage to Raymond Nelson. The couple moved to Fort Dodge. The following Mr. Nelson‘s death in 1961, she continued to live at Fort Dodge, until moving to Mason city. Mrs. Nelson passed away at the hospice of North Iowa on the morning of June 18, and at the age of 97. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Mason city, the DAR, Mason, city, saddle club, Eagles club, and the Moose Lodge. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Joan Bartel of North Springs; son, Edward, Fox of Las Vegas, Vegas, Nevada; sister Leona Madritch of Florida; brother, Albert Marcellus of Humboldt; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brothers, John Meyers, Carl Marcellus and Harold Marcellus; sisters, Ada Locke and Ruth Pollock; and a great grandson, Philip Jondall. "

"Green Lake - Martin ""Bud"" Bartel, age 83, of Green Lake, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Brown Wilcox in Berlin. He was born on December 3, 1935, a son of Walter S. and Margy S. (Fredericks) Bartel. In 1953, Martin graduated from Green Lake High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army having been stationed in Germany during peacetime. Bud was a farmer and was proud of his Twin Springs Farm. He exported cattle internationally and was a member of the Brown Swiss Association. He enjoyed showing his Brown Swiss dairy cattle at the Canton Show and the World Dairy Expo. Bud was a former 4-H leader and supported 4-H in his earlier years. He loved reading, hunting and enjoyed managing his farm and woodlands. Years ago, he was proud of the fact he had deer on his property when deer were scarce. Martin is survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Bartel of Mason City, IA; 4 nephews, Tony (Desi) Bartel of Glenwood, IA, Steve Bartel of Castana, IA, Bob Bartel Jr. of Blooming Prairie, MN, David (Linda) Bartel of Nora Springs, IA; 7 nieces, Pam (Russ) Rolling of Ovens, IA, Michelle (Jim) Meyers of Sioux City, IA, Marcia (John) Conley of Shawnee, KS, Lonnie (Gary) Bilyeu of Ankeny, IA, Rita Larson of Apple Valley, MN, Lynne (Wayne) Goeders of Graettinger, IA, Susan (Don) Kelso of Monroe, IA; numerous great nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margy Bartel; 3 brothers, Walter D. Bartel, Robert W. Bartel, James Bartel; nephew, Jim M. Bartel; sister-in-law, Millie Bartel."
