"Mary Jane Marcellus, the daughter of Jesse and Dorothy (Sauter) Marcellus, was born at Barnes Corners, New York, on November 2, 1902. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Humboldt and attended country schools in Humboldt County. She married Edward Fox at Humboldt and they made their home here for 18 years. After the marriage was dissolved, she moved to Montana, where she was united in marriage to Raymond Nelson. The couple moved to Fort Dodge. The following Mr. Nelson‘s death in 1961, she continued to live at Fort Dodge, until moving to Mason city. Mrs. Nelson passed away at the hospice of North Iowa on the morning of June 18, and at the age of 97. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Mason city, the DAR, Mason, city, saddle club, Eagles club, and the Moose Lodge.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Joan Bartel of North Springs; son, Edward, Fox of Las Vegas, Vegas, Nevada; sister Leona Madritch of Florida; brother, Albert Marcellus of Humboldt; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brothers, John Meyers, Carl Marcellus and Harold Marcellus; sisters, Ada Locke and Ruth Pollock; and a great grandson, Philip Jondall. "
